Wall pressure in a large silo is predicted with finite element method with the consideration of contact interaction between silo wall and mine inside the silo.

The numerical results are consistent well with empirical formula and tests

Abstract: The size of a extreme large silo approximates to about 65¡Á40m, which is difficult to be designed with traditional method to accurate estimate the wall pressure and ores flow. In this paper, a nonlinear finite element analysis is implemented to study the wall pressure with the consideration of contact and material nonlinearity. The finite element results show a precise consistent with empirical formula and detailed analysis can be carried out for some special regions and the inside ores flow.
